Memorial For Patriot Prayer Member Jay

One week after a 39-year-old supporter of President Trump and member of Patriot Prayer was shot to death in Portland by an Antifa terrorist, friends held a memorial for him at Esther Short Park in Vancouver. Hundreds of people gathered in the park for the vigil for Jay (Aaron Danielson) that began with live music, prayer, singing of the national anthem, and chants of "U S A". Many people in the crowd carried American flags, "Back The Blue" flags, and "Trump 2020" flags. There was a BBQ with free food to anyone that wanted to partake.

"We're here to celebrate Jay's life, said Patriot Prayer leader Joey Gibson who was the first to address the crowd. "I don't want to see one person -- I don't want to see anybody encourage any acts of violence in the name of Jay. I don't want to see one person going to Portland and declare one act of violence in the name of Jay -- not one," said Gibson. He said there were two directions to go in, in response to Jay's death: "you can either allow this to make you more courageous in your life ... or you can allow that death to further you in a life of fear. I don't know about you guys, but I'm sick and tired of us living a life in fear."

The other speakers that followed echoed sentiments that Jay was a patriot, and not a fascist or white supremacist. After roughly an hour of speeches and prayer, music returned. A candle light vigil was scheduled for later in the evening.

We attended the event and found it very moving. Below are photos that I took at the event. In the last photo is of "The Epoch Times" reporter and cameraman interviewing one of the attendees who had a Hebrew quote printed on the back of his shirt and who would blow a "shofar", often used for Jewish religious purposes. This was more a celebration of Jay's life than a protest, though one of the speakers did mention this is what a "peaceful protest" looks like. There was no violence, no rioting, no looting. It was a very festive atmosphere with families, children, BBQ food, music, etc.

Does this look like a far-right wing militia group advocating violence to you? Joey Gibson and other speakers called time and time again to not engage in any vengeance because of the murder of Jay. Patriot Prayer follows true Christian principals and never advocates or initiates violence. They believe in the rights of all individuals to peacefully express their opinions, whether Republicans or Democrats, Conservatives or Republicans. They welcome everyone of all races, creeds, religions, genders, and sexual orientation to join them in a call for peace and to protect the individual rights of all. How does this justify Patriot Prayer being classified as a "far right-wing group" and to be banned by Facebook? This unjustified censorship is why I personally no longer use Facebook or Twitter, other than some minor business use, and have removed both Apps from my mobile phone.

The below photos show the eastbound Portland segment of the Amtrak Empire Builder going over a bridge just as Barbara was walking up the sidewalk on our way back to our condo after the event. I ran ahead to get these photos. The very last photo below is a view of the I-5 Interstate bridge between Vancouver and Portland.

We arrived just in time for sunset. The temperature was totally perfect at maybe 72 degrees with no wind. The entire new Vancouver Waterfront is like paradise. There are 9 wineries represented in 7 wine tasting rooms at the waterfront. There are several restaurants at the waterfront with patios overlooking the Columbia River with several more empty spaces ready for more waterfront restaurants to move in.

The above photos were taken from our seat on the patio of Barlow's Public House. They are of the Vancouver Waterfront Pier, the Columbia River, the I-5 Interstate Bridge, and the railroad bridge.
